NEW SAFE HARBOR AND MARINA IS A SUCCESS

February 1, 2002

About an hour’s drive from Melbourne, Australia, on the southern shores of Port Phillip, the Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron is now enjoying the benefits of a new, state-of-the-art floating dock marina. Blairgowrie Safe Boat Harbor and Marina is the first “greenfield site” facility developed on Port Phillip in over 30 years, and is unique in many other ways.

The harbor boasts a new 1,050′ concrete jetty and a 709′, fixed-panel wave screen suspended above the seabed on driven steel piles. Marina components constructed by Bellingham Marine Australia Pty Ltd include a 236′ wave attenuator and the 170-berth Unifloat® floating dock system which accommodates sailing and power boats from 26′ to 60′. The docks also include service pedestals and fire stations.

Bellingham Marine General Manager John Spragg said, “It was one of the best projects I’ve ever been involved in. It ran like clockwork and was completed on time and within budget.” The new facility dramatically improves boating safety by providing a haven in extreme weather and by making the Yacht Squadron rescue craft more accessible. An improvement in water quality and an increase in marine life has already been observed around the harbor.

Bellingham Marine designs manufactures and installs Unifloat® floating dock systems, Unideck® fresh water dock systems and Unistack® dry storage buildings for marinas and boat service facilities worldwide.
