COMPASS MARINAS OPENS NEW MARINA ON AUSTRALIA’S MORETON BAY

December 17, 2010

Redcliffe is a popular seaside destination situated on Moreton Bay in Australia with 22 km of coastline. Earlier this month, an enthusiastic boating public welcomed Redcliffe’s newest marina – Compass Marinas, Redcliffe.

The marina is being developed by Peter Harburg, Director of Compass Marinas under the approval of Port of Brisbane and Department of Transport Queensland.

Following several years of planning, stage one of the three stage marina development is now complete. The marina includes 74 marina berths ranging from 10 to 15 meters. The coordination of the project was handled by Karl Morris of Compass Marinas and Bellingham’s Project Development Manager, Wayne Priestley.

On shore amenities include an architecturally designed building development comprising of a marina administration facility, boat shed, shower and laundry facilities, and a covered community area. The marina also features a large grassed area and extensive landscaping. Pathways have been interwoven into the development to allow pedestrians & cyclists to access the waterfront surrounding the marina.

Having completed an extensive environmental planning approval and consultation process, the Compass Marinas Group decided to take its commitment to the environment one step further by eliminating any use of timber products in the marina. To meet the developer’s request for a marina free of treated lumber, Bellingham Marine provided a composite waler in lieu of its traditional timber waler. This is the first Unifloat marina designed and constructed by Bellingham Marine Australia in Queensland utilizing our full composite waler system.

To add further quality to the marina, single-piece rounded finger ends were utilized. This feature provides an improved visual appearance as well as adds protection and a more forgiving surface to berthing vessels. Other features of the marina include specially designed knee-brackets to create more water space and Platinum Marina Pedestals designed to match the Compass Marinas’ corporate colors of blue and gray.

In addition, vandal proof water taps were fitted to the entire marina, making it a requirement to have a key in order to turn on the water. Less dripping means less water is wasted, as each berth owner is responsible for their own water supply. Focusing further on the environment and the changing environmental requirements for boat mooring facilities, Compass Marinas also requested that a bilge and separate sewer pump out facility be added to the marina.

As the world’s leading marina design-build construction company, Bellingham Marine produces Unifloat® concrete floating dock systems, Unideck® metal frame floating dock systems and Unistack® dry stack systems for marinas worldwide.
