MARINA HARBOR HAS A NEW LOOK

April 12, 2004 / No Comments

In keeping with the high-profile design of the properties in Marina del Rey, the Bellport Marina Harbor Anchorage is continuing reconstruction. Bellingham Marine is installing its Unifloat concrete floating docks as part of phases 6 and 7 of the overall project.

Bellingham was awarded the turn-key design/build contract. Phases 1, 2 and 8 were completed in 2003, and phases 6 and 7 will be done in April 2004. When finished, the renovation will provide 390 slips, averaging 40′ in length. In addition to the ADA gangways, piling and utilities, Bellingham’s designs incorporate the latest technology in single waler/single piece finger construction.

Marina del Rey is one of California’s most complete seaside attractions. It features exclusive ocean-side settings, attractions and recreational amenities, as well as some of the most prestigious boating facilities anywhere. The entire marina reconstruction is expected to be completed by 2006. Bellingham’s Unifloat system will be the standard.

CHESAPEAKE HOME OWNERS ENJOY A NEWLY UPGRADED MARI

March 10, 2004 / No Comments

The Bachelor’s Point Homeowners Association now enjoys boating activities at its newly renovated marina in Oxford, Maryland. World-renowned marina constructor Bellingham Marine designed and installed a 22-slip Unifloat concrete floating dock system, which replaced the outdated fixed wood system. Because of their extensive experience in marina construction, Bellingham Marine was chosen by the association to design/build the project.

Bellingham Marine has installed over 14,000,000 square feet of Unifloat systems over the past 40 years. Oxford, on the East shore of Chesapeake Bay near the mouth of the Tred Avon River, was founded in 1694 and is one of Maryland’s oldest communities. It’s home to many of the area’s most historic hotels and bed and breakfasts, as well as 5-star, gourmet restaurants.

Another unique attraction is the Oxford-Bellevue Ferry, believed to be the oldest privately operated ferry in the United States. It makes the trip across the Tred Avon River to Bellevue every 25 minutes.

CITY MARINA OFFERS COASTAL CAROLINA THE MEGA DOCK

February 12, 2004 / No Comments

In the heart of historic Charleston, South Carolina, USA, City Marina has added a new wave attenuator, which serves as a fuel and transient dock. Designed by Bellingham Marine, the new Unifloat® wave attenuator system, called The Mega Dock by the owner, is the premier dock in town.

After removing the existing steel frame wood deck dock system, Bellingham Marine installed a 6 metre x 457 metre combination Unifloat high freeboard megayacht and wave attenuator float system. The Mega Dock allows flexibility for the number and size of side-tie slips. It also protects the marina’s conventional slips from wind-driven waves and boat wake at the marina’s convenient Atlantic Intra-Coastal Waterway location.

City Marina’s attenuator system is composed of individual concrete float modules interconnected with a through-rod and waler system. Bellingham’s wave attenuators are individually designed to site specific conditions relative to wind, wave, wake and transmitted wave criteria. “We looked at a variety of different systems and found that Bellingham offered the best solution,” said Robbie Freeman, owner of City Marina.

The marina offers full facilities, including showers, laundry and cable TV. Filled with the aroma of coffee and cappuccino, City Marina’s Ships’ Store is stocked with everything needed to fill the galley. A shuttle takes visitors to the city to explore the history and charm of Charleston.

FLOATING DOCKS HELP PROTECT BOATS FROM HURRICANE

February 1, 2004 / No Comments

When James Grady, general manager of Norfolk Yacht and Country Club, assessed the damages from September’s Hurricane Isabel, he was pleased that the marina chose Bellingham Marine to replace its fixed wood docks earlier this year.

The boats protected by Unifloat® floating concrete docks sustained no damage. “Bellingham did an excellent job,” said Grady. “The boats were shielded from the heavy wave action caused by the hurricane.” The company manufactured, supplied and installed the docks as part of Norfolk Yacht and Country Club’s extensive refurbishment program. Bellingham also provided innovative gangways designed specifically to handle high tide events that create a positive slope for conventional gangways.

Situated on the Lafayette River in Norfolk, Virginia, the marina offers 112 slips with full electrical and mechanical services. It has an impressive junior sailing program and is installing a 20′ x 200′ dock to accommodate it. A yachting club for power and sailing yacht owners features races, cruises and onshore parties. The exclusive club offers full service dining with a panoramic view of the water, year-round entertainment for adults and children, a state-of-the-art family fitness center, an array of racquet sports and outdoor pools.

BELLINGHAM MARINE HELPS MARINA PRESERVE LEGACY

December 16, 2003 / No Comments

Located at Walsh Bay on Sydney Harbour in Australia, the Walsh Bay—Pier 6/7 Moorings have historical significance as a former commercial wharf. A challenging project completed by Bellingham Marine allows boaters to enjoy expansive views from the renovated piers on Walsh Bay.

Bellingham Marine first installed two skirted Unifloat® wave attenuators to protect the area. The attenuators incorporate gangways from the timber boardwalks to provide public access to water taxis and sewage pump-out facilities. Also designed for Walsh Bay—Pier 6/7 were individual Unifloat® docks that serve as shared berths for boats up to 20m.

Bellingham’s unique stainless steel pile mooring bars with nylon thimbles help secure boats to the dock. Central pivoting brackets attach each dock’s gangway to the boardwalks to accommodate lateral and vertical movement caused by the boat traffic on the busy Sydney Harbor.

The restoration project on Walsh Bay includes boardwalks, apartments, a car park built below the water level of the harbour, private moorings, gymnasiums and swimming pools for residents. Restaurants, theatres and other commercial shops and businesses are incorporated into the extended Walsh Bay precinct.
