PRESTIGIOUS AUSSIE Y.C. FINISHES MAJOR UPGRADE

September 24, 2004 / No Comments

The Royal Motor Yacht Club Broken Bay in Newport Beach, New South Wales, now offers world-class amenities to members and visitors alike. Bellingham Marine Australia (BMA) has completed the design/build contract for its Unifloat concrete floating docks, wave attenuator and related services. The project involved removal of the existing, fixed timber docks, which had inherent safety problems and splintering decks and provided difficult access to the boats, particularly at LOW tide.

Bellingham constructed 148 slips, featuring the company’s ultra-stable walkways and berthing fingers. This system handles craft up to 80′, and provides sideties for vessels up to 100′. Thanks to the 1,000′ wave attenuator, which incorporates extra-deep draft floats to support a new “fast-flow” fuel facility, boaters can access their craft through all tidal ranges and weather conditions.

The marina also offers swing moorings for 50 vessels. RMYC-Broken Bay is located north of Sydney and has direct access to some of the finest beaches, bays and cruising and sailing waters. The Club fits into its natural surroundings, with sandstone hills and homes on one side and Kurling Gai Chase National Park on the other. -2- RMYC-Broken Bay facilities include a bistro, restaurant, heated pool, playground, laundry, showers, fishing club and junior sailing club. Services are rendered by a marine engineer, shipwrights, electrician and boat broker.

NEW MARINA WILL GRACE WATERFRONT IN BARCELONA

August 4, 2004 / No Comments

A truly unique venue in Barcelona, Spain, the Forum, will soon boast a state-of-the-art marina—the Port Forum Marina. Bellingham Marine Europe, based in the UK, has been contracted by Premia Marinas of Barcelona to design and build a Unifloat concrete floating dock system.

The turnkey project began in July 2004 and is targeted for completion in April of 2005. Port Forum Marina will consist of 190 slips in two basins ranging in size from 10m to 80m, and will include a Drystack dry storage building to accommodate 250 boats. Bellingham will also supply all the necessary amenities, including electricity, potable water, sewer pumpout, lighting and aluminum gangways.

The project will provide slips in a phased handover manner, allowing slip sales to be completed as work progresses. Construction of the Bellingham Unifloat system follows the conclusion of the Forum Barcelona 2004, a gathering where the citizens of the world can come together to debate the most urgent issues of the 21st century. The Barcelona city council, the Catalan Autonomous Government and the Spanish government unanimously approved the Statement of Principles and Values, which is based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and United Nations program principles.

This specially constructed harbor features the world’s largest solar panel and many other unique and environmentally friendly attractions. Points of interest include a circus facility, tourist ferries from the Port of Barcelona, a children’s’ Peace Camp and many areas where people can view the Mediterranean or simply enjoy each other’s company.

GROWING TOWNSHIP ACCOMMODATES FERRIES TO ISLANDS

July 20, 2004 / No Comments

Formerly a quiet, fishing and farming community in subtropical Australia, Redland Bay in Queensland is now a growing, suburban township that boasts direct access to the beautiful islands in Moreton Bay. To help the ferries shuttle residents and visitors to and from the islands, Bellingham Marine Australia was contracted to design and build a state-of-the-art dock system.

The project included six Unifloat concrete floating docks for 60′ commuter ferries, featuring hardwood walers, double thru-rods and complete roofs over the gangways, walkway and fingers for protection from sun and rain. The walkway is a generous 18′ wide, and the fingers measure 9′ wide. To make boarding and exit easy and safe, the system has 3′ 6″ of freeboard. Bellingham also installed emergency, solar-cell lighting to be used in the event of a power blackout.

Redland Bay forms part of Moreton Bay, approximately 25 miles east of Brisbane, the capital of the Australian state of Queensland. Although it’s not the laid back farming community it used to be, Redland Bay is still renowned for its cool breezes, relaxed lifestyle and spectacular vistas of the bay.

RHODE ISLAND MARINA UPGRADES WITH UNIFLOAT DOCKS

May 28, 2004 / No Comments

As part of a multi-year overhaul project, Westerly Yacht Club in Westerly, Rhode Island, has replaced its existing docks with Unifloat concrete floating docks designed and supplied by Bellingham Marine. The new Unifloat concrete walkways with wood fingers will ensure that members and visitors will no longer have to deal with tipping or sinking wood floats.

The marina now has 270 slips for craft from 22′ to 45′. Other amenities include dinghy docks for boaters assigned to moorings, a fuel dock and pumpout station. In addition to the renovated marina, Westerly Yacht Club is home to a 5-star clubhouse with restaurant and bar, showers, heated pool and a playground for younger members of the crew. Guests are welcome.

Westerly and the surrounding communities boast many beautiful beaches, public golf courses and historical sites. Main Street in Westerly is truly reminiscent of the old “Main” streets, featuring quaint hotels and cuisine from tasty Italian to native seafood.

MAJOR AUSTRALIAN PORT UPGRADES AND ADDS TO BERTHS

May 21, 2004 / No Comments

As the focal point of the tropical north in Queensland, Australia, Cairns Cityport marina is an important part of a AUS$ 39,000,000 project to enhance tourist facilities in the area. To upgrade the marina, the port authority chose Bellingham Marine Australia to design, manufacture and install its Unifloat concrete floating dock systems.

The final phase of the project was the addition of 95 slips, ranging in length from 36′ to 120′ to accommodate small cruisers, charters, reef tourist craft and mega and super yachts. The mix consists of 8 different arms and includes 34 slips for craft from 60′ to 100′ and 8 slips for vessels up to 120′. In addition to water, fire and single-phase power utilities, the marina offers phone and data lines, 200-amp electrical outlets and a floating fuel dock.

An arm dedicated for charter tourist vessels is also part of the system. In all, Bellingham installed 191 slips for the project. Cairns is one of Australia’s leading tourist destinations because of its proximity to the Great Barrier Reef, as well as the nearby tropical rain forests.

Home to an international airport, Cairns boasts beautiful beaches and a host of 5-star restaurants, shops, galleries, night clubs and two new venues—the Reef Hotel Casino and the Cairns Convention Centre.
