Steve Canaday has been named as Bellingham Marine’s new northern California manager of project development. Bellingham President Everett Babbitt made the announcement.
With many years of experience as an account executive for Snap-On Industrial Sales in California, Canaday brings strong management skills to his new position. In addition to monitoring new and existing customer accounts, he is responsible for marketing and project development in northern California, Nevada, Arizona and Utah.
“As a front-line representative of the world’s leading marina constructor, I look forward to increasing customer satisfaction,” he said.
In an important step toward meeting increased demand and building for the future, marina constructor Bellingham Marine has just completed a major expansion and consolidation of its Northwest US Division. Production operations have been transferred from the original Bellingham, Washington, waterfront location to a new 26,000 square foot facility 8 miles northeast in Ferndale, Washington.
The Ferndale facility was extensively modified to incorporate environmental control technologies and handling systems, enabling Bellingham to reach new levels of efficiency and quality control. The new plant is substantially larger and encompasses float casting, pre-stress fabrication, wood shop and metal shop all under one roof.
The company has a strong backlog of orders and can now ramp up production and provide better value to its customers. In order to meet current demand, the old facility will continue to operate simultaneously with the new one to complete projects currently in production. In addition to expanding plant and equipment, Bellingham expects to double its Northwest Division workforce in the coming months.
Providing an ideal environment for casting specialty concrete and fabricating pre-stressed concrete components was a foremost consideration in planning for the move. Control of temperature and humidity is critical to achieving strength, durability and crack resistance in concrete. The company’s pioneering heated-floor technology, so successful in Bellingham, was duplicated in Ferndale.
“We designed this plant to improve efficiency and make strides toward ever higher levels of quality control,” said NW Division General Manager Stan Reimer. “Environmental factors are critical to producing concrete components according to Bellingham Marine’s strict engineering specifications. At Ferndale, the plant is always at optimum condition for concrete work, no matter what the weather is outside.”
Handling of super-sized, heavy marina components was also a concern addressed by the industrial planners. Operations managers modified a 35-ton straddle lift to the specific requirements of the plant. Its suspension system spreads the loads over the length of the dock component, and its maneuverability keeps the flow of work going smoothly. “With local trends toward longer dock modules, handling was becoming an issue,” said Reimer. “Our new lift has no problem handling the size and weight of the larger floats.”
Bellingham Marine has just completed the new Anchorage Marina in Hobson’s Bay, Williamstown at the mouth of the Yarra River.
The 80+ Berth marina comprises floating berths from 8 -15metres long with 20 dedicated visitors’ berths offering the perfect location to either cruise the Yarra or spend the day on the bay.
The marina is attached to the famous Anchorage Restaurant owned and operated by the O’Hare family who have served the boating community for the past 22 years. Services such as hire boats, charter boats, new and used boat sales, brokerage and general marine services will also be available.
The site of the marina and restaurant was the original Parsons’ boatshed and jetty that was built in the 1890’s. Parsons ran a boat hire and marine services business catering to the numerous tall ships and steam ships that used to frequent Hobson’s Bay.
Marina Manager Scott O’Hare said :-
“Bellingham has pulled out all the stops and built a truly state of the art marina with extra wide walkways and the latest service units from Marine Technologies from the Gold Coast. A sewerage pump-out and “Porta Potty” empting hopper are also provided. On shore facilities include luxurious ensuites and a sophisticated security system.” “The need for a floating marina to cater to the local boating fraternity along with creating an exciting new destination for visitors was obvious to us.” “Now people can literally pull in, step off and spend the day or weekend in historic Williamstown and enjoy the fine dining at the Anchorage Restaurant.” “Melbourne has come of age and the party has started in Williamstown.”

Beautiful La Paz is the capital of Baja California Sur, Mexico. And now it’s also home of one of the area’s newest resort marinas, Marina Costa Baja, designed and built by world renowned marina constructor Bellingham Marine.
Marina Costa Baja’s new Unifloat concrete floating dock system consists of 240 berths in two basins and a man-made breakwater. The outer basin is designed for vessels from 15 m to 60 m, and the inner basin accommodates craft from 9 m to 15 m.
This turnkey project also included all of the amenities associated with a five-star facility. Each slip has its own electric service, potable water, telephone and TV service and pumpout system. Additionally, the marina features a fuel dock, cruise vessel docking facility and a boat launch ramp.
Some of the design challenges of the construction were the significant corrosion resistance necessary to handle a high-salinity, tropical environment, and pre-drilling for the guide pile system to overcome the rocky soil.
Located on one of the finest, white sand beaches on the southeast coast of the Gulf of California, the resort is situated on 215 hectares of land, with nearly 1.6 km of beach front. The facility includes a 120-room hotel, 20 private villas on the beach, and private apartments and condominiums overlooking the marina.
