NEW MARINA OPENS ON MELBOURNE’S WATERFRONT

August 18, 2006 / No Comments

Two of Australia’s leading companies have teamed up to deliver an integrated mixed-use development that combines residential, commercial, retail and leisure activities. Mirvac’s high-end development at Yarra’s Edge, located in the heart of Melbourne’s Docklands, includes five high-rise waterfront towers and a stunning new 168 berth marina designed and built by Bellingham Marine.

Located on the Yarra River between Crown Casino and the Bolte Bridge, Marina YE is one of the latest additions to the Yarra’s Edge development. Designed for long term mooring of large luxury yachts and motor cruisers, the marina features Bellingham Marine’s Unifloat® system and is equipped with up to 22 metre fully serviced berths. Berth sizes at Marina YE range from 10 metre to 22 metre. The marina also offers transient moorage for boaters visiting the area.

Marina amenities include fully serviced berths with communication provisions and individually metered power and water outlets. Wireless internet access is available on the docks and 24 hour security helps protect vessels moored in the marina. Dinning, shopping, and showering facilities are also available on site. Many of Yarra’s Edge apartment owners have already taken advantage of the opportunity to moor their boats at Marina YE – directly outside their doorstep. Additional berthing for water taxis and ferries has also been installed strengthening the area’s public transportation system.

Mirvac has more than 30 years of experience in the property industry and has an unmatched reputation for delivering quality products. Coupled with Bellingham Marine’s 48 years of experience and unsurpassed reputation in marina construction the two are setting the standard for Australia’s waterfront development.

As the world’s leading marina design/build construction company, Bellingham Marine produces Unifloat saltwater systems, Unideck freshwater systems and Unistack dry storage systems for marinas worldwide. Public Relations

BOATERS DOCKING AT MARINA ENJOY PACIFIC PARADISE

May 23, 2006 / No Comments
Known as the “Paris of the Pacific,” Noumea, New Caledonia, is a boater’s paradise. With bright, blue water and over 800 km of coral reef surrounding the country, the island has a wide array of cultural and natural attractions. And with a new, 250-slip marina from Bellingham Marine, maritime travelers can put in at Port du Sud and enjoy a full slate of amenities.

Tucked behind a rock breakwater, the marina features 8 to 25 meter berths and a 4 meter-wide floating wave attenuator, providing temporary moorage for boats up to 50 meters. Each slip comes equipped with 16 to 60 amps of power, 12 TV channels, Internet access and fuel. The marina also features security gates made of special glass with proximity readers at the entry of the piers and eight family bathrooms for those that live aboard.

The marina was installed adjacent to a luxury apartment building developed by Kalinowski Promotions of New Caledonia as part of the effort to improve that area of the bay. “I am very happy to have chosen Bellingham Marine to do this job,” said Christian Kalinowski, owner/developer. “The attenuator’s design is well-suited for the site.”

With a draft of .5 meters, the wave attenuator allows the deep water current in the bay to renew the water inside the marina during the tides.  This continual flushing means exceptionally clean, clear water for boaters and visitors to enjoy.

Tourists come to Noumea to windsurf, sail and enjoy the city’s beaches. Because the country is still an overseas territory of France, Noumea retains a distinctive European flavor with many French restaurants, boutique shopping and spectacular views from the mountains.

Developed over 40 years ago, Bellingham’s Unifloat System consists of individual concrete floats connected with a through-rod system. This modular concept allows virtually any size or configuration and easy expansion capabilities, too. Environmentally friendly, the concrete decking is safe and non-flammable.

NEW MARINA LETS HOMEOWNERS PLAY IN BACKYARD

April 18, 2006 / No Comments
A new, $200 million mixed-use development in Jacksonville, Florida, will combine four multi-family buildings with 700 units and 75,000 square feet of retail space and 150 state-of-the-art slips built by Bellingham Marine. Homeowners in Harbor Town at Pablo Creek can virtually moor their boats in their backyards so enjoying time out on the water is never more than a few steps away.

Located south of Atlantic Blvd. and west of the Intracoastal Waterway, this project is the first of its kind in the Jacksonville area. Townhomes facing the water are expected to sell for up to $1 million each, and will include a 50′ slip right outside the door.  Slips can also be purchased by homeowners in three other developments.

Docks for the development of Harbor Town Marina were constructed by Bellingham Marine using its patented Unifloat® docking system. The system is a series of closed-cell polystyrene foam floats encased in lightweight, structural concrete. By connecting each module with through-rods, marinas can custom-design their docks to nearly any configuration with plenty of expansion possibilities.

Encasing the foam in strong and permanent concrete protects both the boaters who utilize the docks and the environment. The concrete is safe and sturdy with a non-slip surface, and it eliminates foam flaking
into the water. It also protects moored craft from waves and won’t rot, burn or corrode.

An HMYC yacht sales office, several luxury lifestyle retailers, an upscale restaurant and a marine store are just some of the benefits of living at Harbor Town. The slips are full-service with power, phone and cable hook-ups. A pump-out station is also available on-site.

As the world’s leading marina design/build construction company, Bellingham Marine produces Unifloat saltwater systems, Unideck freshwater systems and Unistack dry storage systems for marinas worldwide.

DOCKS SUPPORT CROWDS FOR VOLVO OCEAN RACE STOPOVER

March 17, 2006 / No Comments

The Volvo Ocean Race is the world’s premier ocean race and features nine offshore legs, starting in Vigo, Spain and concluding in Gothenburg, Sweden. The Melbourne stopover kicked off a month-long party in the Docklands. There was live music, an in-port race, a special food and wine event and the BIA Summer Boat Show.

Installation of the aluminum docks had to move quickly and the components had to provide stable walkways and secure moorage for race participants. The calm basin of the Docklands provided the perfect setting for the premier of the Unideck system. Like all aluminum docks, the Unideck performs best in calm areas.

Bellingham Marine General Manager John Spragg believed the launch of the new aluminum Unideck system was a huge success, “We were happy to see how well the system handled the boat wakes and large crowds.” Graeme Ainley, past president of Yachting Australia and one of the site’s co-coordinators, said he was also very pleased with Bellingham’s Unideck system. “It performed extremely well and appears to be far more stable than other aluminum systems.”

Once the seven teams were off on the third leg of the race, and the festivities ended, the temporary system was removed. Over 200 meters of it were sent to New Zealand to serve as part of the in-water display at the Auckland Boat Show. The remainder stayed in Melbourne, where part of it will be used for the Melbourne Commonwealth Games.

MARINA IS UPDATED TO INCREASE CAPACITY

February 2, 2006 / No Comments

With a prime location on the beautiful waters of Australia’s Port Stephens, Soldiers Point Marina was recently rebuilt to accommodate larger craft and increase capacity. The marina design and construction was handled by Bellingham Marine.

The recently completed project incorporates the Bellingham Unifloat and Pacific systems with ducted servicing. The 100-berth marina accommodates vessels from 7 m to 42.7 m. All berths have full-service amenities, including 150-amp, 3-phase power; water; telecommunications; TV; Foxtel and wireless internet. They feature filtered water to provide the purest water for drinking and washing boats.

The marina also offers a 24-hour, self-serve fuel wharf and a free pump-out facility. Sandy’s Marine and Chandlery is a well-stocked marine store offering bait, tackle, fishing gear, gas, ice beverages and snack foods. It also performs essential marine services, including mechanical repairs, servicing and shipwright services. Marine electricians and skilled mechanics are available on call. The marina is also home to Riviera Sales-Port Stephens, with Steve Stewart and his team handling sales of the comprehensive Riviera flybridge and sports cruisers and stylish US imports including Four Winns.

Soldiers Point and nearby Nelson Bay meet the shopping, entertainment and dining needs of all discerning boaters. The marina’s courtesy car is available to boatowners for use in and around the local area. A complimentary pick-up and/or drop-off at Newcastle Airport can also be arranged for those choosing to arrive or depart the area by air. On site, the Point Restaurant offers a beautiful waterfront dining experience with seafood and prime rib specialties. Informal dining is available at the Bimini Bar and Grill. Plus, the marina is only an hour away from the Hunter Valley wine district and is just 25 minutes from an airport with direct flights to many capital cities.
