Following three years of planning and two years of construction, renovation work at Westport’s Fort Lauderdale sales and service center is nearing completion. Bellingham Marine completed replacement of the facility’s marina in June and the finishing touches are underway on the landside.
Plans to revitalize the existing yacht center called for a complete overhaul of the center’s marina and landside property. The existing waterfront was reallocated and the marina reconfigured to provide berths for the line of Westport yachts up to 164 feet.
The basin was dredged to an operating depth of 13 feet and a complete new seawall system was installed
The renovated marina includes seven berths and enough side-tie for a total capacity of about 20 boats 100 feet in length, complimented by robust electrical services. A 15 foot x 315 foot Mega Yacht Unifloat® Dock with 30” of freeboard provides moorage for new vessels being commissioned and delivered to Westport customers as well as transient slips for customers having minor services performed on their yachts.
“Bellingham Marine has more experience with super-yacht docks than anyone,” said Phil Purcell, Vice President of Westport. “And we noticed with their Unifloat system that they develop their products with the same philosophy and attention to detail we use to develop ours.”
The new sales and service center is more than an afterthought by Westport but a direct representation of the company’s emphasis on customer service and its continual reinvestment in people, design, naval architecture, infrastructure, engineering and proven technologies securing their position at the forefront of the industry.
Purpose built to provide Westport yacht owners world class service, the new marina at Westport’s Fort Lauderdale site is perfectly positioned in Fort Lauderdale’s renowned “Marina Mile” district. Close to all the major yards and numerous other conveniences and amenities, Westport is able to provide captains and crew a consistent customer experience throughout. Crew cars, hurricane support, and 24-hour service are just a few of Westport’s offerings.

Construction has been completed on the architecturally distinctive Tarpon Club Marina Dry Storage Facility, located on Isles of Capri in Naples, Florida.
Designed to accommodate up to 145 boats, the largest being 36 feet in length, The Tarpon Club Marina Dry Storage is the newest drystack facility in the Naples area.
A flexible design, utilizing Bellingham Marine’s Unistack, allows the holding racks to be adjusted to meet demand. There is also space to store an additional 30 boats outside the building bringing the total capacity to approximately 175.
“The building at The Tarpon Club Marina clearly demonstrates that drystacks can be more than a simple warehouse,” remarked Bellingham Marine’s Manager of Project Development, Steve Ryder. From large windows and textured walls to a clock tower, this 25,000-square-foot dry storage building fits in well with its upscale surroundings and is a great example of the advancements in architectural style of modern dry storage facilities.
Not only is the building beautifully constructed, but it has also been designed to withstand hurricane force winds. Both the building and its doors were designed to meet Florida’s strict Building Code requirements.
The Tarpon Club Marina reports great leasing activity for the facility. About 60% of the Marina’s racks have been leased since its opening in February of this year. “The feedback we’ve received from boaters has been overwhelmingly positive, especially in today’s economic climate,” said Mike Morrison, Dock Operations Supervisor at The Tarpon Club Marina, when asked about the Marina’s new dry storage building.
Centrally located, The Tarpon Club Marina is in close proximity to casual and fine dining restaurants. The Marina features wet and dry slips – both open to the public with fueling facilities, bait, wash racks, cleaning station, keypad entry system, complimentary ice, and quality service.

Two new marina projects have been completed in New Jersey – Leonardo State Marina and Monmouth State Marina.
Bellingham Marine (BMI) supplied and installed the dock for Leonardo State Marina – as the original fixed wood dock was no longer usable. The dock system was engineered by BMI, and pile installation and utilities were completed by Bird Construction.
“The townspeople love the improvements, and plans are already being made to replace a second fixed wood dock,” says BMI Northeast Sales Manager Jay Varga.
The upgraded marina can accommodate 20 boats, up to 25’ in length. Amenities include charter/head boats, a boat lift and launch ramp, winter wet storage, gas and diesel fuel, holding tank pump out, ice, bait and tackle, luncheonette, and shower/sanitary facilities.
Monmouth State Marina, located three miles down the road from Leonardo State, now has two 8’ x 80’ walkways for their forklift launching area, also provided by BMI.
Monmouth began purchasing BMI docks in sections in 1997. There are two floats left to be replaced, at which point the whole facility will be upgraded to concrete floats.

Renovation work has been completed at Coronado Cays Yacht club in southern California. Bellingham Marine completed installation of the new D and E docks in late April – just in time for the Club’s 2009 Opening Day Celebration on May 2nd.
New electrical and mechanical systems were installed with 30/30 receptacles at each power center and a 50A receptacle at each end tie. Existing electrical, telephone and cable main feeds were reused in the renovation as well as existing gangways.
The existing slips on docks D and E were replaced with longer and wider double berth slips increasing the average slip length between the two docks from 31.8’ to 35’.
The existing piles were pulled and new prestressed concrete piles were driven. New hose bibs and fire hose cabinets with equipment were also installed. In addition an ADA compliant gangway was added to B dock bringing the marina into ADA compliance.
“The upgraded slips are appreciated by the members. We’re looking forward to replacing the club’s three remaining docks in coming years,” said the Club’s Port Captain, Alan Sweetow. B dock was rebuilt by Bellingham Marine in 2001.
The Coronado Cays Yacht Club enjoys strong local support and is regarded by many as the social center of the Cays community. A beautiful clubhouse, quality restaurant, modern marina, and an active membership base reflects the club’s strong commitment to providing a full range of boating-related events and member services for everyone to enjoy.
