Development has started at Islander Marina in picturesque Lakeshore, Mississippi, located just outside of New Orleans, Louisiana. Starting with a new Unistack® dry storage building from Bellingham Marine, the facility is in the midst of a major expansion process.
Islander Marina currently has over 60 slips and boasts an exquisite beach-like setting. Next month, construction will begin on a casino with a hotel, restaurants and many other amenities. In addition, plans are underway to build an RV park adjacent to the marina and a condominium complex.
The Unistack® building is 130′ wide x 184′ long and can accommodate 144 boats up to 35′ in length. The rack supported structure was built to Bellingham Marine’s high-quality standards and utilizes a flexible system, allowing owners to change shelf requirements to suit customer needs. The attractive Unistack® building features a three-color design with horizontal and vertical placement of sheeting and color-coordinated shutters and towers.
Owner Kirk Ladner is pleased with the appearance of the storage facility. “It’s absolutely beautiful,” he said.

Boaters living outside of Daytona Beach now have an eye-catching, safe and secure facility to store their boats when not in use. Caribbean Jack’s Restaurant and Marina contracted Bellingham Marine to design and construct a unique Drystack storage building.
Occupying 22,500 square feet with the capability of storing 113 craft up to 35′, this state-of-the-art structure carries through the feel of the region. Bellingham designed the Drystack building to simulate the Caribbean theme with lively colors and heavy vegetation. It also matches the architecture of the rest of the marina’s facilities.
The wet slip marina, new showers and restrooms, as well as the new dry storage and restaurant, make Caribbean Jack’s an exciting addition to the waterfront in downtown Daytona Beach. The energetic marina also boasts a Caribbean cuisine restaurant, live music on the large deck over-looking the Halifax River and a swimming pool for use by the boaters and their families. Services include 24-hour, high-speed fueling; in-slip pumpout; daily, weekly and monthly dockage rates; 30/50-amp electricity; and phone and cable at each of the slips.

HARDY TO REPRESENT BELLINGHAM MARINE IN EUROPE
August 2003
Bellingham Marine Industries is pleased to announce the appointment of Matthew Hardy to represent the company’s Unistack and Unifloat product lines in the European marine industry. “We have been studying the UK and European markets for some time and believe we have the opportunity to lend our extensive experience to this diverse marketplace,” commented Phil Greenman, Bellingham’s executive vice president. “We have known Matthew for several years through our businesses in Australia and New Zealand, and look forward to working with him again.” After more than 10 years in the marina business in Southeast Asia, Hardy returned to the UK in early 2001 to set up the marina consulting company MIDAS Consultancy Ltd. (MIDAS stands for Marine International Development and Services.) Since then, he has not had time to look back, traveling extensively within Europe and completing several major contracts. “It was the size, scale and diversity of the business in Europe that first attracted me away from Southeast Asia,” said Hardy. His first project was to turn around a distressed, 1,200-berth marina complex on the Adriatic coastline of Croatia. Hardy has a special kind of enthusiasm for and commitment to the marina business, believing firmly in long-term solutions and quality products. “I am very excited to be working with Bellingham Marine to promote their products in the UK and Europe,” said Hardy. He believes strongly that the Unistack dry storage system offers an ideal and unique solution to the expansion problems facing many marinas in Europe. In an effort to reduce automobile traffic between Oceanside and San Diego, a high-speed ferry service was established between the two Southern California cities. Bellingham Marine was chosen as the turnkey constructor to design and build its Unifloat concrete floating dock systems for ferry docking services.
Designed for a 3′ significant wave environment, the Broadway Pier dock in San Diego consists of 14′-wide concrete x 10′-long modules with overall dimensions of 16′ x 150′. It features a steel wale design and boasts eight new 24″-diameter x 80′-long, octagonal, pre-stressed concrete pilings, and an ADA-compliant, aluminum gangway system. The existing Oceanside dock was retrofitted with one 8′ x 12′ and two 10′ x 12′ Unifloat modules that now act as gangway landing floats.
The design and construction of this dock’s gangway boarding platforms were especially important in order to keep them at the proper elevation for boarding the ferries. Although challenged by strict deadlines and Least Tern piledriving restrictions, Bellingham worked in cooperation with the California Department of Transportation and others to accomplish this project.
Bellingham’s Southwest Division staff estimates the company’s design/build methodology saved about 33% of the total cost of the project and up to 6 months of the design time. Bellingham was also responsible for all landside amenities and utilities, including electrical service, railings and security gates.

Bellingham Marine is pleased to report that the new North Basin piers at the Bahia Mar Yachting Center are complete. The first three piers, G, H and I, are fully occupied. The next phases of work continue on the Intracoastal docks and the South Basin piers, as the project progresses toward its planned completion date prior to the 2003 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.
Located on world famous Fort Lauderdale Beach and the Intracoastal Waterway, the marina was originally built in 1949. Immediately following the 2002 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, removal of the existing fixed docks started, and Bellingham Marine began replacing them with state-of-the-art Unifloat® concrete floating dock systems.
The company’s work consists of manufacture and installation of its Unifloat® systems, including piling, electrical, plumbing, sanitation, fire suppression, telephone and fiber-optic computer wiring. The utilities will provide additional power and water for the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, as well as the day-to-day operation of the marina. Bahia Mar facilities include a Radisson Hotel and Conference Center, boat brokerages and service facilities, a charter fishing fleet, water taxi center, shops and restaurants.
