TWO NEW JERSEY MARINAS UPDATED

June 17, 2009 / No Comments

Two new marina projects have been completed in New Jersey – Leonardo State Marina and Monmouth State Marina.

Bellingham Marine (BMI) supplied and installed the dock for Leonardo State Marina – as the original fixed wood dock was no longer usable. The dock system was engineered by BMI, and pile installation and utilities were completed by Bird Construction.

“The townspeople love the improvements, and plans are already being made to replace a second fixed wood dock,” says BMI Northeast Sales Manager Jay Varga.

The upgraded marina can accommodate 20 boats, up to 25’ in length. Amenities include charter/head boats, a boat lift and launch ramp, winter wet storage, gas and diesel fuel, holding tank pump out, ice, bait and tackle, luncheonette, and shower/sanitary facilities.

Monmouth State Marina, located three miles down the road from Leonardo State, now has two 8’ x 80’ walkways for their forklift launching area, also provided by BMI.

Monmouth began purchasing BMI docks in sections in 1997. There are two floats left to be replaced, at which point the whole facility will be upgraded to concrete floats.

As the world’s leading marina design/build construction company, Bellingham Marine produces Unifloat saltwater systems, Unideck freshwater systems and Unistack dry storage systems for marinas worldwide.

CORONADO CAYS COMMUNITY GETS MARINA UPGRADE

June 2, 2009 / No Comments

Renovation work has been completed at Coronado Cays Yacht club in southern California. Bellingham Marine completed installation of the new D and E docks in late April – just in time for the Club’s 2009 Opening Day Celebration on May 2nd.

New electrical and mechanical systems were installed with 30/30 receptacles at each power center and a 50A receptacle at each end tie. Existing electrical, telephone and cable main feeds were reused in the renovation as well as existing gangways.

The existing slips on docks D and E were replaced with longer and wider double berth slips increasing the average slip length between the two docks from 31.8’ to 35’.

The existing piles were pulled and new prestressed concrete piles were driven. New hose bibs and fire hose cabinets with equipment were also installed. In addition an ADA compliant gangway was added to B dock bringing the marina into ADA compliance.

“The upgraded slips are appreciated by the members. We’re looking forward to replacing the club’s three remaining docks in coming years,” said the Club’s Port Captain, Alan Sweetow. B dock was rebuilt by Bellingham Marine in 2001.

The Coronado Cays Yacht Club enjoys strong local support and is regarded by many as the social center of the Cays community. A beautiful clubhouse, quality restaurant, modern marina, and an active membership base reflects the club’s strong commitment to providing a full range of boating-related events and member services for everyone to enjoy.

As the world’s leading marina design/build construction company, Bellingham Marine produces Unifloat concrete floating dock systems, Unideck lightweight dock systems and Unistack dry storage systems for marinas worldwide.

NEW YORK DOCKING FACILITY RECIEVES BMI UPGRADE

May 21, 2009 / No Comments

Bellingham Marine (BMI) has completed replacement of the East Creek Marina, located in Riverhead, New York. BMI acted as a supplier on the job.

The docking facility, available to residents of Riverhead by annual contract, was in need of replacement, as the wood docks built in 1989 were failing.

The improvements have been well-received by the townspeople. “The residents of the surrounding area love it,” says BMI Northeast Sales Manager Jay Varga. Riverhead Town Councilwoman Barbara Blass held a ribbon cutting ceremony on April 18th to celebrate the official opening of East Creek.

The marina offers 120 berths featuring concrete floating docks. Slips range from 20’ to 30’. Also available is a pump out station, storage (outdoor, wet, and dry), some repair services, fuel, bait and tackle, and a marine store. In addition to the amenities the marina offers to boaters, the facility also serves as a local attraction for land-lovers, offering indoor/outdoor showers, a picnic area, snacks, tennis, restrooms, and ample parking.

“Not only will boaters enjoy a first-class facility but residents and visitors will be able to utilize the Marina’s numerous other amenities,” remarked Varga.

As the world’s leading marina design/build construction company, Bellingham Marine produces Unifloat saltwater systems, Unideck freshwater systems and Unistack dry storage systems for marinas worldwide.

POWER ON THE DOCKSIDE

May 20, 2009 / No Comments

Like it or not, if you own or operate a marina you also own and operate an electric utility; one that floats on a highly corrosive and conductive electrolyte (sea water) and is constantly in motion.

Electricity is a revenue generator for a marina. Large yachts use lots of it, and the revenue they generate can often justify a higher initial investment. If your marina is going to serve big boats, your electrical power system must be properly designed before it is locked in concrete…figuratively and literally.

“Good planning cannot be overemphasized,” said Cliff Norton of Bellingham Marine. “Fixing the problem of an undersized electrical system later may not be an option. In some cases, it’s easier to start over with a new marina.”

Norton is General Manager of Bellingham Marine’s Utilities Division, which is unique in the industry. Marina power has become increasingly specialized and different from the residential and commercial electrical industry. To meet the challenge, Bellingham Marine decided in 2008 to set up a separate division staffed by marina power professionals.

Get it right and super yacht captains will heap praise on your marina. Ask Greg Nailler, General Manager of Eaton Corporation’s Marina Power and Lighting Division. Eaton makes power pedestals expressly designed for super yachts. They market two big-boat models, a high-demand pedestal called the Admiral and a top-of-the-line model called the MegaYacht Powerpoint. The latter anticipates a super-yacht engineer’s every need. “I actually got a hand-written letter from a yacht captain,” said Nailler. “He loved the idea of a power pedestal that adapts to a yacht’s power system.”

AMBASSADORS MARINE GROUP ANNOUNCES CHANGE IN OWNERSHIP

May 14, 2009 / No Comments

Ambassadors Marine Group (AMG) announced today that they have been sold to Bellwether Financial Group, Inc. Bellwether Financial Group, Inc. is a private company based in California, headed by President and CEO Joe Ueberroth. The transaction, which was concluded on May 13, 2009, consisted of cash, forgiveness of debt, and assumption of liabilities in excess of twenty four million dollars.

AMG consists of two companies, Bellingham Marine (BMI) and BellPort Group (BPG). Under the stewardship of Mr. Ueberroth, the companies will act as independent entities. Going forward both BMI and BPG will be privately held companies, returning to them a more competitive and entrepreneurial method of operation.

“We are extremely pleased that Joe’s group was able to accomplish a purchase of AMG,” said Everett Babbitt, President of Bellingham Marine. “His background, industry experience, and reputation will serve as a strong enhancement for both companies going forward.”

“This change will return BMI to its former position as a proactive and strategic company, with a long term vision,” opined Mr. Ueberroth. “As the leader in the field of marina design-build construction, BMI is well suited to come through these difficult economic times as a stronger and better-positioned company. Similarly, as a leading operator of shipyards in Southern California, BPG is in excellent shape, and is poised to grow with the return of the market.”

Mr. Ueberroth has been associated with both Bellingham Marine and BellPort Group for over twelve years. In that time he has worked with the companies in a variety of ways, including functioning as CEO, Director, and as a customer.
