BELLINGHAM MARINE HELPS REMAKE HISTORY FOR CITY IN AUSTRALIA

September 8, 2009 / No Comments

Bellingham Marine Australia (BMA) recently contributed a little more to the rich history of Australia’s Gold Coast and completed another successful project in the Southport area. Officially opened on Sunday August 23rd, the new floating public access pontoon in Southport was part of the Gold Coast City Council’s major $42 million rejuvenation to the existing Broadwater Parklands at Southport.

BMA was contracted by one of Australia’s leading construction companies “Abigroup”, and the Gold Coast City Council, to design, construct, and install a floating public access pontoon.

Features of the new pontoon include high stability, for public safety, high 600mm freeboard and a structural fixed and hinged gangway system of 63m (206ft) in length. The new gangway consists of 3 fixed gangways and 3 fixed intermediate landings leading to a 20m long hinged gangway, all of which was designed to be aesthetically pleasing, from not only the water and Parklands area, but also from the adjoining luxury high rise apartment towers, dotted throughout the area.

The goal of the council’s $42 million project was to celebrate 150 years of Queensland’s and Southport’s history and to reconnect the Gold Coast’s Southport Business District with the Broadwater harbour.

Long ago, the Pier at Broadwater Parklands was the place to go and was considered by many as the centre of entertainment in Southport, as it had a theatre, which introduced the first films with voice and music to Southport. The Pier also held dances, skating contests and a range of other activities. It had extensive promenades overlooking the water and a free amusement cafe, with games such as indoor golf and bowling. Unfortunately, in 1969 the pier was demolished and with it faded the surrounding festivities.

The revitalized park boasts a new gathering place for the people of Southport to reminisce and build new memories. The opening ceremony was hosted by Queensland Premier Anna Bligh, who arrived by jet boat and stepped safely onto the Bellingham Marine Pontoon.

As Australia’s leading marina design/build construction company, Bellingham Marine Australia produces Unifloat concrete systems, Unideck lightweight systems and Unistack dry storage systems for marinas throughout Australasia.

PORT OF OLYMPIA COMPLETES IMPROVEMENTS AT SWANTOWN MARINA

August 19, 2009 / No Comments

Bellingham Marine announced the final completion of a $1.4 million renovation at Port of Olympia’s Swantown Marina located in Washington State.

Renovation efforts focused on docks G through L. All wood walers, rub boards, hardware, and deficient weldments (tri-frames, et cetera) were replaced. Supplemental flotation was installed to regain original freeboard, and to level fingers and walkways. Utilities were improved, and selected float modules were resurfaced.

John Thompson, Project Manager for the Port of Olympia, states that “some of the finger docks were raised by a good 4 inches as evidenced by the mud line under the woodwork. The docks haven’t looked this good since they were built.”

“Depending on the condition of the docks, comprehensive repairs can be a cost effective way to delay total replacement,” said Bellingham Marine’s Manager of Project Development, Walt Jackson.

For the Port of Olympia, the repairs mean another decade or two of revenue before plans for replacement will have to be revisited.

Swantown Marina has been providing South Sound boaters with convenient moorage and day use access to Puget Sound since 1983. Owned and operated by the Port of Olympia, the marina currently maintains approximately 700 slips ranging in length from 20 feet to 70 plus feet.

As the world’s leading marina design/build construction company, Bellingham Marine produces Unifloat saltwater systems, Unideck freshwater systems and Unistack dry storage systems for marinas worldwide.

WESTPORT COMPLETES CONSTRUCTION OF YACHT SALES AND SERVICE CENTER

July 31, 2009 / No Comments

Following three years of planning and two years of construction, renovation work at Westport’s Fort Lauderdale sales and service center is nearing completion. Bellingham Marine completed replacement of the facility’s marina in June and the finishing touches are underway on the landside.

Plans to revitalize the existing yacht center called for a complete overhaul of the center’s marina and landside property. The existing waterfront was reallocated and the marina reconfigured to provide berths for the line of Westport yachts up to 164 feet.

The basin was dredged to an operating depth of 13 feet and a complete new seawall system was installed

The renovated marina includes seven berths and enough side-tie for a total capacity of about 20 boats 100 feet in length, complimented by robust electrical services. A 15 foot x 315 foot Mega Yacht Unifloat® Dock with 30” of freeboard provides moorage for new vessels being commissioned and delivered to Westport customers as well as transient slips for customers having minor services performed on their yachts.

“Bellingham Marine has more experience with super-yacht docks than anyone,” said Phil Purcell, Vice President of Westport. “And we noticed with their Unifloat system that they develop their products with the same philosophy and attention to detail we use to develop ours.”

The new sales and service center is more than an afterthought by Westport but a direct representation of the company’s emphasis on customer service and its continual reinvestment in people, design, naval architecture, infrastructure, engineering and proven technologies securing their position at the forefront of the industry.

Purpose built to provide Westport yacht owners world class service, the new marina at Westport’s Fort Lauderdale site is perfectly positioned in Fort Lauderdale’s renowned “Marina Mile” district. Close to all the major yards and numerous other conveniences and amenities, Westport is able to provide captains and crew a consistent customer experience throughout. Crew cars, hurricane support, and 24-hour service are just a few of Westport’s offerings.

Westport is the industry leader in North America and among the largest in the world. Today, Westport builds motoryachts ranging from 85’ to 164’. Focusing on quality, efficiency and design, Westport balances the best in performance, safety and value. NEW DRY STORAGE FACILITY OPENS ON ISLES OF CAPRI IN NAPLES, FLORIDA

July 27, 2009 / No Comments

Construction has been completed on the architecturally distinctive Tarpon Club Marina Dry Storage Facility, located on Isles of Capri in Naples, Florida.

Designed to accommodate up to 145 boats, the largest being 36 feet in length, The Tarpon Club Marina Dry Storage is the newest drystack facility in the Naples area.

A flexible design, utilizing Bellingham Marine’s Unistack, allows the holding racks to be adjusted to meet demand. There is also space to store an additional 30 boats outside the building bringing the total capacity to approximately 175.

“The building at The Tarpon Club Marina clearly demonstrates that drystacks can be more than a simple warehouse,” remarked Bellingham Marine’s Manager of Project Development, Steve Ryder. From large windows and textured walls to a clock tower, this 25,000-square-foot dry storage building fits in well with its upscale surroundings and is a great example of the advancements in architectural style of modern dry storage facilities.

Not only is the building beautifully constructed, but it has also been designed to withstand hurricane force winds. Both the building and its doors were designed to meet Florida’s strict Building Code requirements.

The Tarpon Club Marina reports great leasing activity for the facility. About 60% of the Marina’s racks have been leased since its opening in February of this year. “The feedback we’ve received from boaters has been overwhelmingly positive, especially in today’s economic climate,” said Mike Morrison, Dock Operations Supervisor at The Tarpon Club Marina, when asked about the Marina’s new dry storage building.

Centrally located, The Tarpon Club Marina is in close proximity to casual and fine dining restaurants. The Marina features wet and dry slips – both open to the public with fueling facilities, bait, wash racks, cleaning station, keypad entry system, complimentary ice, and quality service.
