September 21, 2010 / No Comments

Bellingham Marine, world renowned marina builder, announced it has expanded into South Korea and has opened an office in Seoul. The company appointed South Korean national, Simon Yoo, to the position of Business Development Manager. Mr. Yoo will help the company set up operations in Seoul and oversee new projects in the region.

“The timing is right,” said Everett Babbitt, President of Bellingham Marine. “As a company we’re in a good position to enter the Korean market and the enthusiasm and energy being directed at promoting the marine leisure industry in Korea is remarkable.”

Korea is actively working to grow its marina industry with strong support coming from both the National and Provincial Governments.

Babbitt added, “We are happy to have Mr. Yoo on our team. His extensive background and knowledge of the market in Korea will help us meet the needs of this unique, emerging market.”

Mr. Yoo’s past experience includes a long history of working in Korea’s yachting industry. He’s an avid sailor holding multiple national championship titles and has severed as both a member and as a director at a number of prestigious yacht clubs. Mr. Yoo is also an internationally recognized designer of both yachts and cars and holds an engineering degree from Hanyang University. One of his many well known Korean car designs is the SsangYong Musso.

“It’s an honor to be a part of the Bellingham team,” said Mr. Yoo. “I look forward to the challenges and successes that lay ahead for Bellingham Marine as we help Korea build up its yachting infrastructure.”

BELLINGAM MARINE CONSOLIDATES OPERATIONS IN EUROPE

September 14, 2010 / No Comments

Bellingham Marine announced recently its plans to consolidate its European operations and move its staff and capital equipment to the company’s existing facility just north of Barcelona.

“This strategic move not only lowers overheads by combining physical office and plant locations, but also creates synergies in our manufacturing and construction operations that will allow us to provide greater value to our customers,” explained Chris Lamont, General Manager for Bellingham Marine Europe.

The company previously performed a portion of its manufacturing activities in France and also staffed a separate sales office in Barcelona.

“The concentration of all production, sales, and administrative activities in a single location will generate numerous benefits by eliminating duplicated services and creating greater efficiency of personnel, operations, production and management,” added Everett Babbitt, President of Bellingham Marine. “It will also allow us to fulfill our commitment to provide better service and to become more competitive in the marketplace.”

This consolidation will not affect projects already under contract or any legal obligations. Bellingham Marine Europe may be contacted at 34 933 56 1229 or through its corporate office at +1 360 676 2800.

MEGA-YACHT DESTINATION NEARS COMPLETION IN THE BAHAMAS

September 3, 2010 / No Comments

Following a year and a half of construction Albany Marina, located at Providence Point in the Bahamas, is nearly ready to welcome the marina resort’s first visiting vessels when the community opens in October.

August marks the completion of the first phase of construction of Albany’s 71-slip marina, which included the dredging of a mile-long, 150 foot wide channel and the creation of a 15-acre deepwater basin with a controlling depth of 16 feet MSL. To date, they have installed 25 of the marina’s largest finger piers, ranging from 50 feet to 240 feet in length.

Crews are completing final work on the utility and fuel systems, including a state-of-the-art fuel dock featuring high-speed fuel dispensers.

A unique feature of Albany Marina is the six activities platforms located in the southwest and north sections of the marina. These large decks provide over water space for slip owners to use for everything from staging areas for provisioning their vessels to spaces for hosting friendly gatherings.

The look and feel of Albany Marina is nothing short of spectacular, featuring all the latest in amenities and dock design. Everything at Albany Marina has been supersized to cater to mega- and superyachts.

Main walks measure 12 feet wide, and fingers range from eight to 10 feet. Docks feature freeboards of 30 inches, and gangways are rated for use by golf carts and other service vehicles. A single 12 foot wide gangway, rated for use by larger vehicles, has also been installed to access the central fuel dock and dock master’s office. Concierge services, crew facilities and access for provisioning and special fueling also distinguish Albany Marina.

The completed resort facility will boast an Ernie Els-designed golf course, luxury cottages, single-family homes and marina residences, an equestrian center, a luxurious beach club and more. The vision of Joe Lewis, together with golf legends Tiger Woods and Ernie Els, Albany is positioned to become a world-class yachting destination.

Slips at Albany have been sold through membership with the Albany Yacht Club.

DOWNTOWN NEWPORT BOASTS NEW LANDING PIER

August 23, 2010 / No Comments

Situated in the heart of historic Newport, Rhode Island in Perrotti Park, the city’s new Harbor Shuttle Landing Facility has effectively doubled the city’s downtown water transit facilities.

The new L-shaped landing dock, which measures 20’ x 55’ along the shore and 22’x 80’ perpendicular to the shore is part of Newport’s efforts to enhance its capacity to handle ferry, cruise ship and water shuttle traffic.

Heavy duty concrete floats with glulam walers were selected for the project. “With lots of boat traffic in the area and seasonal weather fronts the water in the bay can get a little rough,” remarked John Colonel, General Manager for Bellingham Marine’s Northeast division. “The Unifloat system with a double glulam waler was the right solution for the job and will serve the City of Newport well for decades to come.”

The floats also feature 24” freeboard to allow for easy access on and off the boats moored at the landing.

According to an article on Newport Now, city officials hope that by expanding the park’s facilities, the city will be better able to facilitate the disembarkation of passengers from the city’s growing cruise ship traffic, encourage expanded use of waterborne transit and generate additional revenue through tie-up fees.

Floats for the project were supplied by Bellingham Marine.
