BELLINGHAM MARINE APPOINTS BRUCE BIRTWISTLE TO POSITION OF GENERAL MANAGER

November 12, 2012 / No Comments

Bellingham Marine, world renowned marina builder, is pleased to announce the appointment of Bruce Birtwistle as the General Manager of Bellingham Marine New Zealand. Mr. Birtwistle rejoins the Bellingham Marine family after 3 years of working in the Middle East for Bellingham Marine’s licensee, Septech Emirates, where he served as the Business Unit Manager of Septech’s marine division.

While at Septech, Bruce oversaw the design and construction of some of the region’s most iconic marinas including YAS Marina, Jumeirah Beach Marina and Dubai Marina Yacht Club. Prior to joining Septech, Bruce oversaw Bellingham Marine’s New Zealand operations. Over a 7 year period Bruce grew the division by 400%. He established Bellingham Marine as the region’s leading expert on marina design and construction and played an active role in helping to shape the industry.

Everett Babbitt, President, stated, “Bruce brings a substantial set of skills, knowledge and experience to Bellingham Marine’s management team. We believe Bruce will provide Bellingham Marine New Zealand with the invaluable guidance needed to continue to build our New Zealand operations, which also oversee the South Pacific.”

“Appointing this position has been a carefully considered process,” said Phil Greenman, Executive Vice President of Bellingham Marine. “Bruce knows our products, our company and the New Zealand market better than anyone else. We are delighted to have him back and are confident in Bruce’s ability to help us overcome some the unique challenges facing us in New Zealand.”

BELLINGHAM MARINE ANNOUNCES COMPLETION OF NEW TERMINAL FOR FLAGSHIP CRUISES ALONG SAN DIEGO’S DOWNTOWN WATERFRONT

November 6, 2012 / No Comments

Bellingham Marine is pleased to announce the completion of Flagship Cruises’ new terminal located next to Broadway Pier in downtown San Diego, California. On October 1st, Flagships’ luxury fleet of vessels docked at their new home for the first time.

The new terminal was built to coincide with the North Embarcadero Visionary Plan (NEVP), a redevelopment and rejuvenation plan for San Diego’s downtown waterfront.

Eric Noegel, Manager of Project Development for Bellingham Marine’s SW Division said, “The new Flagship terminal is a clear example of the level of customization that can go into a project.” Noegel added, “There were a number of factors that drove the design and execution of the Flagship facility including the site’s exposure to waves, the Port of San Diego’s NEVP redevelopment plans adjacent to the site, the needs of the large vessels docking at the terminal, and the heavy foot traffic on the docks.”

The floating terminal, shaped in a U, features oversized concrete docks with steel wide flange beam walers specially designed for a 3 foot wave environment, heavy duty ocean guard fenders to protect the boats from direct contact with the steel walers, a floating building constructed on the docks used for storage, extra-wide clear walkways to accommodate large crowds and covered gangways with LED rope lighting for user comfort.

All power, water and pumpout connection points on the docks are concealed below the surface of the deck to keep walkways and provisioning areas free and clear of obstacles and equipment.

Brad Engel, Vice President for Flagship Cruises, said “We appreciated the knowledge and expertise Bellingham Marine brought to the project. We had a number of custom elements designed into the dock system and they were integrated perfectly. As issues arose we were able to work through them quickly and efficiently and the end result is a first class facility on San Diego bay.”

As the world’s leading marina design-build construction company, Bellingham Marine produces Unifloat® concrete floating dock systems as well as timber and metal frame systems. The company also produces Unistack® dry stack systems for marinas worldwide.

World renowned marina builder presents at Chain's 1st marina conference

BELLINGHAM MARINE’S JOHN SPRAGG PRESENTS AT CHINA’S FIRST MARINA CONFERENCE

October 22, 2012 / No Comments

Bellingham Marine General Manager of Australasia, John Spragg recently traveled to China to present at the country’s first dedicated marina conference.  Spragg, a well-respected veteran of the marina industry, is responsible for overseeing Bellingham Marine’s operations throughout Asia, the Middle East, Australia, New Zealand and the South pacific.

Over 100 delegates including some of China’s leading marina developers and operators attended Spragg’s presentation on marina design and wave attenuation.  “His presentation was extremely informative and addressed a number of key issues we should be cognizant of when building a new marina facility.  He also gave explanations of engineering issues we all could now understand,” said one of the conference attendees following Spragg’s presentation.  Highlights from Spragg’s presentation include:

  • Marina site selection and wave design criteria
  • Proper wave protection and acceptable wave height within the marina basin
  • Explanation of wave related definitions and data

The conference was held at the newly completed Nansha Marina, located in the Pearl River estuary in China on October 10th and 11th.  The Yacht CN 2012 boat show opened following the conclusion of the conference.

Everett Babbitt, President of Bellingham Marine, said, “We are pleased to have had the opportunity to present at China’s inaugural marina conference. It’s great to see the country’s enthusiasm for the emerging industry. ”

The marina industry in China is still in its infancy but is showing promise for growth.  According to Yang Xinfa, chairman of the China Boat Industry and Trade Association, there are over 2,000 leisure boats currently registered within the country.  In his presentation at the conference Yang stated that he believes there’s a potential for much faster growth as there are many marina projects in the planning stage.

As the world’s leading marina design-build construction company, Bellingham Marine produces Unifloat® concrete floating dock systems as well as timber and metal frame systems.  The company also produces Unistack® dry stack systems for marinas worldwide.
