St. Paul Small Boat Harbor

St. Paul Island, Alaska, USA

Description

St. Paul Island is a small island located in the Bering Sea off the coast of Alaska. The region is known for its rough waters and brutal winters. Due to the extreme weather conditions, the marina required seasonal docks.

The remote location and harsh environment made for a number of unique challenges. All materials had to be prefabricated, as there were no local sources. In addition, the entire marina system, including piling, was designed to allow for easy removal. Each winter the marina has to be completely disassembled and stored upland due to severe freezing temperatures.

Project Features
  • Heavy-duty steel docks
  • 1 1/2″ thick serrated steel grating
  • Gravity anchor system
  • Boat launch ramp and staging dock
  • Removable docks and piling
Project Scope
  • New marina construction
Services Provided

The Harbor has 14 slips for boats up to 40 ft. in length.
The heavy-duty steel docks have serrated steel grating to ensure they don't become slippery.
The Harbor is designed to allow for easy removal every winter.
All materials were prefabricated and shipped by barge to the small, remote island.
